The Significance of the Virgin Birth

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14 KJV

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matthew 1:23 KJV

The Lord promised to give us a sign – a sign that the Messiah had arrived – and it was the sign of the virgin giving birth to a baby. A virgin is a pure, unmarried, young woman. She is not merely a young woman, but one who is also pure and undefiled – who has never known a man. Of course we all know that it is impossible for a virgin to even conceive, never mind give birth, because it takes a man and a woman to make a baby. It always has and it always will. Why was it so important for the Messiah to be born from a virgin?

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. Romans 5:12 KJV

Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. Romans 5:14 NKJV

Behold, I was brought forth in [a state of] iniquity; my mother was sinful who conceived me [and I too am sinful]. Psalms 51:5 AMP

When Adam sinned, sin and death entered into the world and from that moment on sin was passed down to every person born after that from generation to generation. This was an obstacle that could be overcome by no mere man or cured by no amount of good works. No matter how many people were born, there was not one who was born who was free from sin or able to permanently free themselves or others from sin! Man needed God’s help.

And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. 29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. Luke 1:26-35 KJV

The birth of Jesus was unlike any other before or since. His mother was a woman – a woman like any other woman – conceived in sin like all mankind. However, His father was not Joseph – a man – His Father was God Himself. Unlike the rest of us, He was born holy and sinless. He had to be born as a man – to become one of us to take our place on that Cross. He also had to be born sinless, and then live a sin-free life, in order to be able save the sinner – you and me – and take our place in dying to sin and being resurrected into new life.

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV

The reason that the devil so fights the virgin birth is because without it, we have no Savior and the message of the Gospel collapses. Men have tried to say that Jesus was just a good man – merely a prophet like all the others – and not the Son of God. If that were true then that would make Him a liar and just one of us. He could never have died for our sin if He was a sinner as well. So the Gospel is rendered powerless. Men have also tried to deify Mary, however, Jesus was not born sinless because of having a holy mother – He was born sinless because He has a holy Father! There is NO biblical evidence that Mary was anything more than a God-fearing, faith-filled, obedient, pure young virgin. Jesus needed to be born to a human mother so she could give Him His earthly body. If she was immaculate then that makes Him all God – and it was vital that He be both man AND God in one body. With His death and the shedding of His own blood, He ratified an eternally unbreakable covenant between God and man.

For since [it was] through a man that death [came into the world, it is] also through a Man that the resurrection of the dead [has come]. 22 For just as [because of their union of nature] in Adam all people die, so also [by virtue of their union of nature] shall all in Christ be made alive. 1 Corinthians 15:21-22 AMP

Jesus answered, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, unless a man is born of water and [even] the Spirit, he cannot [ever] enter the kingdom of God. John 3:5 AMP

We are all born into this earth by “water” – natural birth – and when we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior we are born again – this time born of the Spirit! Our spirit is made alive and we become a new creature in Christ! Our natural birth gave us natural life and our spiritual birth gives us supernatural, everlasting life! Thank God for the faithfulness of the virgin, Mary, to believe the word of the Lord and to obey God in allowing Him to use her to bring forth both her, and our, Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Obeying God: When We Say Yes by Rodney Howard Browne

Luke 5:1-11

Teaching children to swim begins with a simple lesson – they must be taught to put their face in the water. That first step will open the door to learning how to swim. Unless the child masters that one small skill, swimming remains out of reach, and some future pleasure is sacrificed.

Obeying God always begins with a small step, one that may sometimes seem insignificant or unrelated to the task at hand. Yet it is where God wants us to begin. Jesus had been addressing the crowds when He asked to get into Peter’s boat. This did not seem like a request that would open the door to ministry or even great blessing. But it was the place where Peter was to start. Our saying yes to God in the small things is an essential step to His greatest blessings. Other people will also derive benefit from our obedience. When Simon Peter consented to Jesus’ request, the result was two boatloads of fish, more than enough for all those with him.

Obedience to God may require us to do some things that appear unreasonable. A carpenter asked professional fishermen to stop fishing and take Him on board. Those with Peter may have questioned why he suspended the work to accommodate Jesus. Others may question us on whether the matter is important or reasonable. We may wonder too.

Obedience in the smallest of matters can open the door to God-ordained opportunities and lead to blessings for us and others. How do you respond to God’s requests? Does the word “yes” come quickly to your lips?

Rodney Howard Browne shows us how to obey God

Obeying God by Rodney Howard Browne

It doesn’t matter what or who comes against you to destroy you if you trust God’s Word. A whole army of the enemy is no match for the army of angels that surround you to protect you! Rodney Howard Browne explains that you cannot see them (unless God supernaturally opens your eyes), but they are there nonetheless.

And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, why sit we here until we die? If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.

And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians.” and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there. For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host.” and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us. Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

2 KINGS 7:3-7

When God is on your side, armies will flee in terror before you. It doesn’t make sense in the natural, but it is a reality. Rodney Howard Brown explains that this is not going to happen for you if you do not believe God’s Word. You must put your faith and trust in God’s Word and angels will work on your behalf.

Notice the last part of verse 11 in The Amplified Bible. They will defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service]. That’s why you want to make sure that you’re obeying Him and serving Him. The angels of the Lord are there, but they cannot defend you in your ways of disobedience. You can’t be smoking crack and asking your angel to play lookout!

Make sure that you’re obeying God. Make sure that you’re doing everything you know how to do to walk in the plan and the purpose of God for your life. Rodney Howard Browne teaches that when you obey God, the enemy cannot touch you, because the hand of God is upon your life.

This is crucial: God’s protection is in His presence. You must stay in His presence in order to be under His protection. Sin removes you from His presence and His protection. Now look to the next verses, Psalm 91:12-14 (AMP):

They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the serpent shall you trample underfoot.

Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore, I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness — trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].

Stopping the Hunger Period, Second Part by Rodney Howard Browne

Problems we Encounter by Rodney Howard Browne

Yesterday we checked out the words of the soothsayer Amos who expected a famine—not one of hunger for literal food or for water. Amos foresaw a famine for hearing God’s truth announced.

“Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord GOD,. Not a famine for bread or a thirst for water,. But rather for hearing the words of the LORD. They’ll go to and fro to find the word of the LORD,. But they won’t find it.” ( Amos 8:11-12 ). Unless you are an exception and you end up under the sound of trustworthy, pointed, deep, and bold proclamations of God’s written Word week after week, you may admit that you’re in the middle of that famine.

Whether you realize it or not, the toll it is taking on you and those you like is just devastating. Let’s recommit ourselves to breaking that famine.

First, pray that God will force a resurrection in the hearts of His people—a revival of interest in the private reading and studying of His Word. Pray for seminaries where God’s ministers are being trained to handle and declare the Truth. Pray for your pastor—for adequate time to be spent in the study, preparing. And then for bravery to “preach the Word” with authority.

Infrequently do congregations get more serious about spiritual things than their priest, so pray for a renewing of fervour. 2nd , start to nourish yourself in the Scriptures.

Get serious about “fixing your own religious meals” instead of depending on some other person to prepare all those meals for you. Don’t allow yourself to be happy with non secular fast food served by shallow, slipshod communicators. Third, consider beginning a Bible class in your own house. Nice things can happen in settings like that. There’s a large amount of non secular nourishment to be gained in groups committed to learning and growing together.

God’s Plan | Rodney Howard Browne

God does not react ; He plans. He planned creation.

He planned the raising up of a country from whom He would send the Messiah. Rodney Howard Browne explains that He planned the approaching of Jesus and his expiration on the cross. He planned our redemption even before He made the globe. ( Revelation 13:8 ). And He planned a place for us in heaven. It isn’t difficult to understand that God has a plan for our lives because that is as per His nature. He did not create us, drop us into the world, and say, “Do the best you can.” Rodney Howard Browne points out that he’s got a special plan for every one of us – He relates to us as individuals and endows us with unique non secular gifts and callings. Paul knew that God had called him in particular to be an apostle ( one Corinthians eleven ).

What did God considering when He made you? What were His plans for your vocation, how you would serve Him, and whether or not you are to marry? You may be guaranteed that God has a plan for each moment of your life. Thru His Word and the Spirit, he is announcing, “I am reliably here to meet your requirements. I made you. I saved you. I have got a purpose and design for your life. I am here to support you and to allow you to do all I am considering for your life. And I can never leave you.” the sole life that will bring God honor is the life surrendered to Him and His purpose. Rodney Howard Browne teaches to cooperate with His plan for you, which is the way to find joy, peace, and deep satisfaction.

God Wants the Best for You by Rodney Howard Browne

God wants you to achieve success.

This does not mean he has got an automated plan for you to become rich or famous, though either of these might be included in His final design for your life. God’s idea of success starts at the Cross where Jesus died. Rodney Howard Browne explains that success isn’t measured by what you do in life or what you gain financially. Your love and attention to Jesus Christ measure your success.

In one Samuel fifteen, we read how Saul decided he would provide a sacrifice that only God’s anointed clergyman was commissioned to give. Since Samuel wasn’t present, Saul felt justified in his actions and made the sacrifice himself. Rodney Howard Browne this one act of insubordination cost Saul the dominion. Here is a lesson we want to learn if we’re going to be successful.

God anoints certain folk to do certain things. He has placed leaders in our lives for a reason. If we wish to lead, we must first learn how to follow. If you fail to submit to your God-given authority, then success from God’s perspective will be troublesome to attain. Rodney Howard Browne teaches that a successful person has learned humility to the point that he no longer thinks about whether he has gained it or not. We are called to do the will of God, but this only can be done at the feet of Christ. One more thing.

Seven Laws of Prosperity

1. God is the source of all prosperity and He is kind and generous toward man:

The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. 3 And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand. Genesis 39:2-3 NKJV

The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph’s authority, because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper. Genesis 39:23 NKJV

And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Deuteronomy 8:18 NKJV

2. Obedience attracts prosperity:

Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Deuteronomy 28:1-2 NKJV

Therefore keep the words of this covenant, and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do. Deuteronomy 29:9 NKJV

And keep the charge of the Lord your God: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn. 1 Kings 2:3 NKJV

3. Respect for and meditation in God’s Word brings forth the fruits of prosperity:

This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success. Joshua 1:8 AMP

Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. Psalms 1:1-3 NKJV

4. Faith in God and His Word brings prosperity:

So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.” 2 Chronicles 20:20 NKJV

So I answered them, and said to them, “The God of heaven Himself will prosper us; therefore we His servants will arise and build, but you have no heritage or right or memorial in Jerusalem.” Nehemiah 2:20 NKJV

5. Seek God and you will prosper:

He sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God; and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper. 2 Chronicles 26:5 NKJV

For the shepherds have become dull-hearted, And have not sought the Lord; Therefore they shall not prosper, And all their flocks shall be scattered. Jeremiah 10:21 NKJV

6. Goodness towards God’s covenant people results in prosperity:

I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Genesis 12:2-3 NKJV

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. 7 Peace be within your walls, Prosperity within your palaces.” Psalms 122:6-7 NKJV

7. Hospitality and generosity attract prosperity:

Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. Luke 6:38 NKJV

[Charge them] to do good, to be rich in good works, to be liberal and generous of heart, ready to share [with others], 19 In this way laying up for themselves [the riches that endure forever as] a good foundation for the future, so that they may grasp that which is life indeed. 1 Timothy 6:18-19 AMP

THREE REASONS SOME DO NOT PROSPER:

1. Rebellion against God:

And you shall grope at noonday as the blind grope in darkness. And you shall not prosper in your ways; and you shall be only oppressed and robbed continually, and there shall be no one to save you. Deuteronomy 28:29 AMP

2. Covering Sins:

He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. Proverbs 28:13 NKJV

3. Fighting God:

But the Lord is with me as a mighty, awesome One. Therefore my persecutors will stumble, and will not prevail. They will be greatly ashamed, for they will not prosper. Their everlasting confusion will never be forgotten. Jeremiah 20:11 NKJV

No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord. Isaiah 54:17NKJV

Building Lasting Friendships by Rodney Howard Browne

If I were to ask you how many friends you had, you may mention a large group of people, each of whom you call “friend.” However, if I were to ask how many really knew you—heart and soul—I wonder if anyone in that group would qualify. The sad truth is, genuine friendship has become a rare commodity in this world.

What does it take to be a true friend? There could be no finer example than the relationship between David and Jonathan. These two knew what was required to maintain a healthy friendship, and their commitment to that relationship is legendary.

Three things characterized their friendship. First, they had a mutual respect for one another. This is a point that often gets lost in today’s world. Rodney Howard Browne points out that the reality is that we can never maintain a genuine friendship with anyone whom we do not completely respect.

Second, David and Jonathan shared an emotional love for one another. There was nothing sexual or inappropriate about their feelings; rather, they simply rejoiced in the comradery that God had brought together.

Third, they maintained a genuine commitment to each other. These were no “fair weather friends.” In fact, their bond even withstood the attempts of Jonathan’s father to kill David. (1 Samuel 23:15-17) Jonathan refused to allow anything to come between him and his friend.

Think about your best friend. Do you have a mutual respect? Do you feel an emotional bond between you? Are you both committed to your friendship? One true companion is a blessing from God. (Proverbs 18:24) Praise Him for the gift of your friend.

  • 1.
  • And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
  • 2.
  • And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house.
  • 3.
  • Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
  • 4.
  • And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
  • 5.
  • And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely : and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
  • 6.
  • And it came to pass as they came , when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.
  • 7.
  • And the women answered one another as they played , and said , Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.
  • 8.
  • And Saul was very wroth , and the saying displeased him; and he said , They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?
  • 9.
  • And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.
  • 10.
  • And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul’s hand.
  • 11.
  • And Saul cast the javelin; for he said , I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.
  • 12.
  • And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.
  • 13.
  • Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
  • 14.
  • And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.
  • 15.
  • Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely , he was afraid of him.
  • 16.
  • But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.
  • 17.
  • And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD’S battles. For Saul said , Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
  • 18.
  • And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what is my life, or my father’s family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king?
  • 19.
  • But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul’s daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife.
  • 20.
  • And Michal Saul’s daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.
  • 21.
  • And Saul said , I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain.
  • 22.
  • And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly, and say , Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king’s son in law .
  • 23.
  • And Saul’s servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said , Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king’s son in law , seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed ?
  • 24.
  • And the servants of Saul told him, saying , On this manner spake David.
  • 25.
  • And Saul said , Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king’s enemies . But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
  • 26.
  • And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son in law : and the days were not expired .
  • 27.
  • Wherefore David arose and went , he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king’s son in law . And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.
  • 28.
  • And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal Saul’s daughter loved him.
  • 29.
  • And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David’s enemy continually.
  • 30.
  • Rodney Howard Browne points out that the princes of the Philistines went forth : and it came to pass, after they went forth , that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by .
